March Book Recommendations/What I read this month

So this month I didn't do much reading, as I was unable to get to the library very often. But this is what I did read:

Lord of Chaos(bk 6 of TWoT) by Robert Jordan
I really enjoyed this book, though for about a week I had to put it down because I was to scared to read any father.

Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu
I don't think I need to talk about this one ;)

Four Truths and a Lie by Lauren Barnholdt
It wasn't a very good book; there was no real character development or anything. Just a bubble gum, silly pop culture book.

Book Recommendations:

Carmilla by J.Sheridan Le Fanu

Riders of the Purple Sage and it's 'sequel' The Rainbow Trail by Zane Grey.
I really enjoyed these books. They were well written and full of action and suspense, and a little romance. I own the second book, and it's very old. It's the oldest book in my collection of random books.

Lucky the Horse Nobody Wanted by Doris L. Santon
Now it sounds like a kids book, but its not. This book made me cry.....So just go and read it so we can cry together over this book. :'(

The Indian in the Cupboard (and it's sequels) by Lynee Reid Banks
This was the first actual book that I read, and I really enjoyed it. It's about a boy who lives in England, and he is given a cupboard and a key by his brother for his birthday. He locks up his plastic Indian in it, and it comes to life. This book and it's sequels sound cheesy, but they are srrsly so good! And very funny! (Well trying to keep a miniature real live Indian a secret from your family is bound to create difficult and funny situations ;)    )

The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge
This book is so delightful and just an awesome read. Harry Potter fans will be glad to know that Queen Rowling "absolutely adored The Little White Horse" to quote her :)

And that's it for now! ( I promise that I'll be reading much more in April!) Namarie!

Carmilla by J.Sheridan Le Fanu Book Review

Hey guys! So I just finished reading Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. As you know, I watched the web series. So I was really excited to read it. It pre-dates Dracula by 26 years, and was written 243 years ago.

I found a free, not abbreviated version online which I'll link below. The web series sticks well to the novella(a novella is a book that is shorter than a novel). The characters have the same names, and a lot of the same things happen. There are four major differences:

a) In the book, Laura is not at a University. She is at her home.

b) Carmilla is evil, whereas Carmilla in the web series is sort of good.

c) The character Danni from the web series is not in the book.

d) the ending to the book is far different to the web series.

Don't read the prologue, it's only an author's note and has nothing to do with the story. At first, I was like meh. The first chapter is kinda hard to read, but then things started happening, and it was just so awesome. The style in which it is written is old so sometimes it's a bit hard to read, here's an example from Chapter Six:

"I had a dream that night that was the beginning of a very strange agony.
I cannot call it a nightmare, for I was quite conscious of being asleep. But I was equally conscious of being in my room, and lying in bed, precisely as I actually was. I saw, or fancied I saw, the room and its furniture just as I had seen it last, except that it was very dark, and I saw something moving round the foot of the bed, which at first I could not accurately distinguish. But I soon saw that it was a sooty-black animal that resembled a monstrous cat. It appeared to me about four or five feet long for it measured fully the length of the hearthrug as it passed over it; and it continued to-ing and fro-ing with the lithe, sinister restlessness of a beast in a cage. I could not cry out, although as you may suppose, I was terrified."

When I watched the web series I thought that the ship Hollistien(Laura and Carmilla) was non canon. But since reading the book, I'm not so sure. *spoiler!* Carmilla in the book 'loves' Laura, if you can say that a vampire that wants to eat you is in love with you. In the web series Carmilla does love Laura. I'm just super confused. If you've read the book, please tell me in the comments whether or not you think Hollistien is a canon ship.

After reading this novella I now know much more about the habits of vampires, how to kill them etc than I ever did before. Who knows...maybe that knowledge will  come in handy someday if I'm ever targeted by a vampire..... ;)

This book was really good. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars. My only problem with it is that I wish it was longer.(It's only sixteen chapters, and the chapters aren't short, but they aren't long either.)

Here's the link to the book:http://www.sff.net/people/DoyleMacdonald/l_carmil.htm
                                                         Namarie and have fun reading!

Carmilla web series: Review

Hey guys! So the other day I did a marathon of the web series Carmilla. I'm going to try and keep this spoiler free. So first things first:
                                                            This is the series poster.

This is Carmilla Karnstien. She's a vampire.(and NO that's not a spoiler, they say that she is a vampire in the series trailer)

And this is Laura. Carmilla's roommate at Silas University.

Now I really enjoyed this web series. If your looking for a new show to watch, Carmilla is a good one. It has short episodes, so that it won't take up a lot of your time. It just finished Season 1, and Season 2 is coming soon(I hope, bc if I don't get more Carmilla episodes then i'll DIE)
Here's the series trailer:
Now my thoughts on it:
It was perfect for me, bc the episodes didn't take up a ton of time,(well if you do a marathon it'll take you about..hm 1 hour? maybe 1 hour and half.)
Carmilla, Laura and the other characters are very well done. And trust me, the vampires in this show are way more awesome than stupid Twilight vamps. Carmilla is an awesome vamp.
This is Carmilla watching Twilight:
AND!!!! Laura is a fangirl! XD She is a HP fan and a Doctor Who fan. She also, for some reason, looks like Tris from Divergent. :/
There. Don't say I didn't warn you. And if you don't like slash pairings, don't watch it. Otherwise this show was amazing and I rate it 9 and half stars out of ten(bc of the slash pairing).

The Lindsey Stirling Book Tag(created by me)

I really enjoyed doing the Taylor Swift Book Tag, but Taylor isn't my fave artist. So I made up the Lindsey Stirling Book Tag. I hope you guys like it!

Stars Align: A sci-fi book that you really enjoyed.
hm..I read this really good sci-fi book....I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME URRGHHHH(I'll get back to you guys on this one....if I EVER remember the name....it's been about a year or 2 since I read it and I don't own it)

Shatter Me: A book that broke your heart/a book in which the main character goes through a lot of character development.
ok. The Hobbit broke my heart. It will never heal. And bk 4/5 of The Wheel of Time series. Rand in the first 3 bks refuses to acknowledge  that he is the Dragon Reborn. In bks 4/5 he gradually accepts that he is what he is and embraces(well sort of; he's rebellious) his destiny.

We Are Giants: A book that makes you feel empowered to achieve you goals.
High Fences by Julie White. Its the sequel to The Secret Pony. I highly recommend it.

Electric Daisy Violin: a sugary, bubble-gum, pop culture book that isn't bad, but doesn't have any depth  to it.
Four Truths and a Lie by Lauren Barnholdt.

Moon Trance: A book or series that you were 'moonlighted' into loving, but when the 'moon' disappeared, you realise that it's awful.
The Thoroughbred series. It changed authors and it just wasn't very well written, and it got boring.

Song of a Caged Bird: a classic that you really enjoyed.
Ok: The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. Harry Potter fans, this is what JK Rowling said about it: "I absolutely adored The Little White Horse". It's about a girl who is orphaned and is sent to live with her old cousin in his castle. IT IS SO AWESOME.

Night Vision: A book with a plot twist that completely caught you off guard and left you mind blown.
House of Hades. RICK. YOU ARE SO CRUEL!

Anyway, that was the Lindsey Stirling Book Tag! I now tag:

Beth from http://adventuresofanelvenprincess.blogspot.ca/
Shreya from http://abooknerdfromhogwarts.blogspot.ca/
Aralas from http://maikalormcatarussafinturakano.blogspot.ca/
Sarah from http://sarahfsth.blogspot.ca/
Nickie from http://elwenofgondor.blogspot.ca/

and that's all for now, creampuffs!(okokok I'm NOT crazy for calling you guys creampuffs; it comes from watching to much Carmilla(there'll be a post on that AWESOME show very soon.) So spread this tag around and etc etc etc. thanks!

The Taylor Swift Book Tag

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together - pick a book or series that you were pretty sure you were in love with, but then wanted to break up with. The Roman Mysteries series by Caroline Lawrence....the first 5 to ten books were really good. And then....I read this one book...I was about 10..there was a TON of YA stuff....I was so not expecting it. It ruined the series for me, because the characters are kids, too young for that stuff, and it was just...UGH

Red - pick a book with a RED cover
hm...Lord of Chaos(bk 6 of TWoT) had redish colors....

Love Story - pick a book with forbidden love.
I don't read romance novels, but that book from TRM(mentioned above) I can't remember the name but there was a lot of 'forbidden' love stuff.

I Knew You Were Trouble - pick a book with a bad character you couldn’t help but love.
Gollum from LOTR and The Hobbit. I LOVE Gollum, he is so puppy dog like sometimes and other times scary and other times funny. You just can't help but love him.

Innocent - pick a book that someone ruined the ending for.
The House of Hades, Allegiant...hm...

You Belong With Me - pick your most anticipated book release.
Idk. I don't have an anticipated book release at the moment.

Forever and Always - pick your favourite book couple.
*sweats* ONE? *DIES* I CAN'T...NO SORRY...

Come Back, Be Here - pick the book you would least like to lend out, for fear of missing it too much.
LOTR.TH. ALL OF MY BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teardrops On My Guitar - pick a book that made you cry a lot.
The Hobbit. Need I say more? And Blood of Olympus also made me cry.

Shake It Off - pick a book that you love so much, you just shake off the haters.
I'm going to say series, TWoT. A lot of people say their boring, but I love them.

I now tag anyone who read this!

Defending the Hobbit movies against all haters :P

*Takes a deeeep breath* ok. You know what annoys me more than anything?! People hating on the Hobbit. I don't care if you don't like them. I don't mind that. It's when people say stuff like, "The music was boring and not new" Ok. Srrsly? You just need to shut your mouth and take a trip to outer space. Why? Because you are a disgrace to Middle-earth. There was so much epic music in the Hobbit that we had never heard before. Yes there are some similarities. BECAUSE ITS MIDDLE-EARTH. Both trilogies are set in Middle-earth, there has to be similarities. We hear the Shire and Rivendell themes again because we visit those places again. But otherwise the music is almost completely different. Listen to these:

the list goes on and on...Far over the Misty Mountains Cold, The Last Goodbye, I See Fire, Blunt the Knives...
Now As for how the characters were portrayed, they were done perfectly. So what if Tauriel doesn't exist. I don't hear anyone complaining about Haldir dying in TTT. Tauriel is simply a female elf that was given a name. And a part to play. She is so compatible with lore that she belongs in Middle-earth. End of story.
I've heard a lot of people complaining about the use of CGI. Ok, you like watching the Hobbit in 3D, right? Well the miniatures used in LOTR worked well because LOTR was not filmed in 3D. The Hobbit was, which means that had miniatures been used, it would have looked SO fake. SO DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! Dain Ironfoot was done in CGI because not only did Mr.Bill Connolly have a health issue, the make-up was not working. They just were not able to make him LOOK like Dain. So they used CGI, and Dain looks like Dain should. A lot of the orcs and goblins were CGI too. Well Smaug takes up a lot of the budget doesn't he? Also...HOW ON EARTH ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO MAKE AZOG OR BOLG LOOK 7/8 FOOT TALL WITH MAKE-UP?
And one of the most despicable things possible that I hear is that PJ and crew did not put as much love into the Hobbit as they did in LOTR. EXSCUSE ME? I just need people who say that to take themselves and become a hermit. They are a disgrace. I have the Art and Design books, I have heard the interviews etc. PJ, the actors, the crew, everyone working on the Hobbit movies put much, much love into them. And the Battle of Five Armies was epic.
Thank you for reading my little *cough long cough*rant!

Book Tag!

1. Rather read only a series or stand-alone books?
I prefer to read series. Because there's more books to read. And there is usually more character development.

 2. Rather read a book whose main character is male or female?
I don't really have a preference, though I do usually find female characters easier to relate too.

 3. Rather shop only at Barnes & Noble (or other actual bookstore) or Amazon?
Idk. Just any good book store, I guess. Amazon has it's place, like if the book you want is cheap on there, but shopping online will NEVER EVER replace actually walking into a book store and the smell and sight of all those books. It has a special feeling to it.

 4. Rather all books become movies or tv shows?
Movies. Because, sadly, we don't have cable, so I don't watch tv shows, unless I watch  them on my mom's phone.

 5. Rather read 5 pages per day or read 5 books per week?
What kind of a question is that? If I had enough time, I would be reading more than five books per week. Because of school, however, I am not able to read as much as I'd like.

 6. Rather be a professional book reviewer or an author?
An author. I am actually working on a fantasy trilogy right now, which I hope to get published one day.
7.  Rather only read the same 20 books over and over or get to read a new book every 6 months?
I do re-read my fave books ALL the time, especially when I don't have any new books to read at that moment. But I also love getting a new book/book series to read.

 8. Rather be a librarian or own a book store?
Own a book store. Or work at one.

 9. Rather only read your favorite genre or your favorite author?
Favorite genre, because all my favorite author's write my favorite genre, fantasy!

 10. Rather only read physical books or eBooks?
PHYSICAL BOOK. eBooks may be useful for going places, like on a plane, but they will NEVER EVER replace the feel, smell and look of a real book.

If your reading this, then I tag you to do it. XD
Also, I hope to FINALLY finish my Tauriel cosplay, and then I will post some pics of it.
